AIR VELOCITY TEST FOR CLEANROOM
Product Brochure
INSTRUMENT | DIGITAL ANEMOMETER |
TIME | 3 TO 5 HOURS( AS PER REQUIREMENT) |
VALIDITY | 1 YEAR |
The Air Velocity Test for an Operating Theater (OT) is conducted to measure the speed and flow of air within the room. This is crucial to ensure proper ventilation, maintain sterile conditions, and prevent contamination during surgical procedures. The test helps verify that the HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning) system meets the required standards for air changes per hour (ACH) and airflow patterns.
2. Purpose:-
To ensure proper airflow to maintain a sterile environment.
-
To verify that the air supply and exhaust systems are functioning correctly.
-
To identify areas of stagnant air or turbulent flow, which could lead to contamination.
-
Anemometer (hot-wire or vane type) for measuring air velocity.
-
Pitot Tube (for more advanced testing).
-
Flow Hood (for measuring flow rates at diffusers).
-
Differential Pressure Gauge (to assess pressure differentials).
-
Preparation:
-
Ensure the OT is not in use during the test.
-
Close all doors and windows, and adjust HVAC systems to normal operating conditions.
-
-
Measurement Points:
-
Air supply diffusers (inlet vents).
-
Air exhaust grilles (outlet vents).
-
Near critical areas like the surgical table, operating lights, and sterile zones.
-
-
Measurement:
-
Place the anemometer at specified points, typically at the center and corners of the OT.
-
Record air velocity in meters per second (m/s) or feet per minute (fpm).
-
Check for uniform airflow distribution.
-
-
Analysis:
-
Compare the measured values with design specifications and standards (e.g., WHO guidelines, ASHRAE standards).
-
Assess air changes per hour (ACH) and verify pressure differentials between adjacent areas (e.g., OT vs. anteroom).
-
-
Air Velocity: Typically ranges from 0.25 to 0.5 m/s (50-100 fpm) for cleanrooms/OTs.
-
Air Changes per Hour (ACH): Minimum 20 ACH recommended for operating rooms.
-
Positive Pressure: Maintain positive pressure relative to adjacent areas (typically 10-15 Pa differential).
-
Temperature & Humidity Control: Ensure compliance with temperature (20-24°C) and relative humidity (30-60%) requirements.
-
WHO Guidelines for Operating Room Ventilation.
-
ASHRAE 170: Ventilation of Health Care Facilities.
-
ISO 14644: Cleanroom Standards (if applicable).
-
Document all readings, observations, and any deviations from the required standards.
-
Provide recommendations for adjustments if needed.
